How do you determine your skin type?

How do you determine your skin type?

How do you determine your skin type?

Does your skin flake, shine or both at the same time?

Maybe you don’t take the best care of her or something in your diet is not what you need.

Do you know what your skin type is?

There are four main skin types:

  • dry,
  • normal,
  • oily and
  • combined.

The sebaceous glands on the skin secrete a specific secretion called sebum . Sebum has important protective and transport functions:

  • forms an oily waterproof layer that prevents neither excessive skin hydration nor excessive drying;
  • brings to the surface lipids, antioxidants and pheromones that prevent the development of pathogenic fungi and bacteria;
  • Transports vitamin E and other fat-soluble micronutrients to the epidermis.

What type of skin each person has depends on how much and how actively this sebum secretes. On the other hand, the appearance of the skin depends on its appearance: the number and visibility (clogging) of the pores, the speed of aging and the formation of wrinkles, flaking and unhealthy shine.

Usually people have combination skin, ie. certain areas are dry, others oily. There are also people with completely dry or completely oily skin. Almost no one is normal.

But no one can be said to have abnormal skin, or to be unhealthy or beautiful.

It just depends on what type of skin you need to take care of it.

You can easily find out what your skin type is experimentally or even in appearance.

  1. Experimental skin type determination

Clean your face with regular cleansers. Dry it and do not apply any creams afterwards.

After about two hours, rub the forehead, nose, cheeks, and chin with a thin paper towel or napkin, and after each rubbed area, examine the napkin in bright light directed at it, through it, or both.

  • If there is no trace of sebum on the paper, you have dry skin .
  • If there are slight even marks on the paper throughout the fabric, you have normal skin .
  • If the paper has scars and oily spots, you have oily skin .
  • If there are strong marks only on the forehead, nose and chin, you have combination skin .
  1. Define skin type by appearance (functional)
  • Dry skin

Dry skin always looks matte, soft and thin. Pimples and inflammations rarely appear on it. Unfortunately, wrinkles can appear at a young age.

Such skin reacts poorly to sudden changes in weather and adverse weather conditions (strong wind, frost, etc.).

With improperly selected cosmetics or rougher application, redness and itching easily appear.

The skin becomes dry for various reasons: it can be hereditarily dry, have a deficiency of useful fats and vitamins A, C and P, or improper nutrition and hydration in general. It can also dry out when using cigarettes or excessive alcohol consumption.

People with dry skin should be careful when choosing cosmetics to take special care of themselves all year round, but especially in winter and in cold weather.

  • Normal skin

Normal-skin is velvety, with no acne and even in color It looks fresh and clean, the pores do not stand out, redness and itching are rare, mainly due to the influence of external factors. If you have normal skin, you are in luck! But this is extremely rare.

  • Oily skin

In people with such skin, the sebaceous glands work too actively. Therefore, only a few hours after washing the face begins to shine. The pores, especially in the forehead, nose and chin, are enlarged. Pimples and blackheads are not uncommon, and pores are often clogged.

However, oily skin has a huge advantage: it ages more slowly. The secreted sebum creates a good protective film that prevents the evaporation of moisture and blocks the penetration of harmful substances from the outside.

  • Combination skin

Combination skin is the most common. In this case, usually the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) has all the signs of oily skin: pimples, enlarged pores, shine. And the skin around the eyes and cheeks is tender, thin, prone to dryness. This type of skin has more than people in the world.

  1. However, let’s mention the main features in the care of different skin types, regardless of the cosmetics used
  • Dry skin care

Use room temperature water for cleaning and washing.

It is advisable not to use tap water. Too hot or cold water, especially chlorinated or dirty, will worsen the condition of the skin.

Do not wash your face too often. Your skin produces a little sebum and regular cleansing washes it away, leaving your face vulnerable.

Always remove makeup, gently and thoroughly before bed.

Do not overdo it with peels and scrubs. If you use them, choose products with the finest textures.

After bathing, do not rub your skin with a hard towel. It is enough to dry it slightly.

Masks should be done no more than 2-3 times a week. Cleansing and tightening pores masks are not useful for dry skin.

In sunny weather, snowfall or high in the mountains, use a day moisturizer with SPF 30.

  • Normal skin care

For people with normal skin , the best advice is: don’t overdo it!

Wash your face, moisturize your skin and make masks or peels no more than 2-3 times a week. Use masks for dry or oily skin depending on the current condition of the face and climatic conditions.

During the cold season, additional nourishment is more useful, and in the heat – deeper cleansing.

  • Oily skin care

Wash your face in the morning and evening. For deeper cleansing of the pores you can use a special brush, sponge or specialized cosmetics.

Use lukewarm or cold water – the pores become smaller, less visible and the face shines less during the day.

Do not use strong facial cleansers often – there is a risk of excessive drying of the skin. In response, the body will react and the sebaceous glands will begin to work even more actively.

Do not squeeze pimples.

You can use scrubs once or twice a week after washing your face, but before nourishing creams.

Make cleansing, nourishing and firming masks no more than three times a week. Just because your skin is oily doesn’t mean you shouldn’t moisturize it enough.

Do not overdo it with make-up and blush – this will not get rid of the oily shine, it will only contaminate and hinder the normal functioning of the skin.

Use a paper towel to remove greasy shine during the day – just press it gently to the shiny areas if necessary.

  • Combination skin care

Read the care for dry and oily skin and take appropriate care of the individual areas.

Definitely the easiest way to care for all skin types is a set of facial cosmetics from the SKIN facial series and the Herbal Aloe series </ em> for body and hair of Herbalife Nutrition , which you can get acquainted with in the cosmetic challenge of our club:
