What (doesn’t) the scale tell you… or why does the number in itself mean nothing?
Scale! Ah, this scale is the “”scarecrow”” for most women, and for many men, too. The device that is capable of disrupting or improving mood in seconds. However, the scale does not tell you everything and should not be used as a basic and sole guide for health, beauty and monitoring of the progress towards the desired figure.
Body weight is important when considering different external factors, such as how much weight an elevator holds, how much of the prescribed medicine to drink, if it is based on personal weight, and the like.
Unfortunately, however, too many people still associate their athletic form and notion of good looks solely with the number indicated by the scales arrow in the bathroom.
More often affected are women who, under the influence of malicious advice from fashion magazines, where by misguided stereotypes of “”perfect looks”” by some media, create the false notion that if they do not weigh X kilos they will not be beautiful, they will not feel good and may even be ridiculed if they do not fit into the “”perfect proportions”” (there is no such thing, there is no way to put all people into one mold).
The so-called culprit is the so-called “”Body Mass Index”” or more commonly referred to as BMI. To calculate this index, it is enough to know your height and weight. However, when the necessary calculations are made and compared to the results shown, it may turn out that your index falls in the “”normal”” column and you still have a tummy. Or else your numbers are out of the normal range and you are more athletic and have a healthier fat percentage than ever before.
This is because the index in question does not show the composition of the body – what part is muscle, what kind – fat, etc.
What can’t the “”our friend”” – the scales – tell us?
There is no way the scales can determine your sport shape and appearance. It is important for active athletes who are preparing for a race for which they have to enter a certain category.
When you step on the scale, the arrow shows you a number and everything stops there. It does not show how it is hidden, which is more important – how much fat, like how many years your organs work, quantity of water or muscle mass, etc.…
He cannot tell us whether the gain/loss is muscles or fat, and this is actually the determining factor in how we will feel, our appearance and our health.
IS THERE ANYTHING THAT THE SCALE CAN TELL US?
YES, A LOT!
However, if we combine scales with other methods of monitoring body parameters, this radically changes the situation.
This is exactly what our wellness assessment is all about – measuring the basic parameters of body structure and analyzing them. They tell us many things if we can interpret them correctly.
And we can!
