What are the symptoms of drinking too little water?

If you still haven’t gathered enough courage to look for us (who knows why courage is necessary, especially for men), read the following lines.

If any of the following phenomena apply to you, it is advisable to still seek us out. All chemical and physiological processes in the human body take place in a water environment, and a lack of water can be extremely dangerous. Lack of water is especially dangerous, but not only, for people actively engaged in physical activity and sports.

  1. Dry mouth

It can be expressed not only as a feeling, but also as an accumulation of stickers on the lips, most often after sleep.

If you don’t clean them after getting up, when brushing your face and teeth, it also leads to chapped lips, especially in winter or windy weather. Some people are used to this cracking and may even claim that it is genetic, when in fact it is due to a lack of water.

In all of the following explanations, “water” means clean drinking water – not coffee, not carbonated or non-carbonated sweet drinks, not even sparkling water. Remember – we are talking about clean drinking water!

Water washes the mucous membrane of the mouth and allows it to function normally and perform its protective functions.

  1. Excessive thirst

Thirst is different from dry mouth. Thirst is a feeling created by the body as a rescue signal. Listen to these signals, because the body can only signal, there is no way to restore its missing water.

  1. Dry skin

Probably few people know that the skin is the largest organ of the human body, it can reach about 6-10% of its weight. Like any organ, it also needs hydration. The lack of water in the skin leads to a lack of sweat, and this, in turn, disrupts the function of the skin – cleansing, thermoregulation, protection.

  1. Dry eyes

Dry and red eyes are also a sign of insufficient water intake. This dryness can cause significant and irreversible eye damage, especially when using contact lenses.

  1. Pains in the joints

It may seem strange to you, but the composition of bones, cartilage and joints contains from 30 to 80% water (here we are not talking about the so-called “Water in the knee”, which is a medical condition and is a completely different thing) . Water is especially important for ensuring normal contact in the joints and for reducing the impact of sudden movements during running, jumping, falling and others.

  1. Muscle mass decreases

Muscles are also largely made up of water. It is logical that when the water in the body decreases, the muscle mass also decreases. Unfortunately, this is not very visible, and when it is noticed, it is already at a very advanced stage. With us, you can measure your muscle mass and react in time.

Muscle mass decreases the fastest during active physical training and insufficient hydration. Indeed, muscle mass can increase with training, but they must necessarily be combined with proper nutrition and good hydration, otherwise the effect is completely opposite. It can even lead to inflammatory processes and acute pain.

  1. Frequent illness

Without water, none of the organs can function properly. This leads to a sharp decrease in immunity and frequent illness. Water is necessary for cleaning waste products, for the good functioning of the mucous membranes, which are in constant contact with harmful factors. When an organ is excessively affected, the body can divert water to it at the expense of another. This is reflected in new problems with this “other” body. I.e. water must reach all the organs of the body and in sufficient quantity.

  1. Constant fatigue and sleepiness

When water is not in sufficient quantity for an organ, the easiest way for the body to obtain it is from the blood. This, in turn, leads to disruption of basic functions of the blood, such as the supply of oxygen to all organs. Lack of oxygen leads to drowsiness and fatigue. This condition worsens with each passing day and can easily be mistaken for another disease. Coffee or other energy drinks in this case will not help in the long run and even worsen this condition even more.

  1. Frequent feeling of hunger

Being life-saving signals, hunger and thirst are very similar and are often confused by the person who needs to respond. His first reaction is to provide “fuel” for the body and he “opens the refrigerator” to look for food. Food is indeed “fuel” for the body and makes it work, but it cannot work normally if it is not first cleaned and “lubricated”. Although you feel like eating, think about whether you have had a drink of water recently and whether it is better to drink a glass of water.

  1. “Acids” in the stomach

There is mucous not only in the mouth. The entire digestive system is similarly arranged. Without the necessary amount of moisture, the density of mucus in the stomach is reduced, making it easier for stomach acid to cause damage to internal organs. This leads to the phenomenon we usually call heartburn or stomach problems.

  1. Constipation

Heartburn is not such a painful problem, or at least most heartburn sufferers have found some way to get rid of it – baking soda, medication or herbs, although flushing the body with more water is the most natural and almost free way to do so. Constipation is a more serious problem, since it is not accepted to talk about it, every sufferer lives and torments himself with it, which can lead not only to nervous tension and impaired work capacity, but also to mental problems. Therefore, constipation should be treated promptly. Usually, when the body’s water content is restored, constipation also disappears.

  1. Visible signs of premature aging

The amount of water our body can maintain and process decreases with age. This does not mean that we should reduce the water, on the contrary! Aging can be visibly noticed, especially on the skin, but the condition of the internal organs is even more dangerous. With the specialized devices at our disposal, we can determine the biological age of the internal organs. In order to “rejuvenate” them, the consumption of water should be deliberately increased. To reduce the risks of diseases of the internal organs, it is necessary to stick to drinking enough water throughout our lives.

  1. Infrequent urination and dark colored urine

Urination is a natural way to cleanse the body of harmful substances, and its darkening is a clear sign of insufficient water in the body, respectively insufficient cleaning of harmful substances.
